Strangers with Candy - we love it!
For those who couldn't make it, this is what you missed, and for those that were there, a fond reminisce ......

 THE SETTING

Lovely setting, cosy, funky without attitude - we were in a cute courtyard with gorgeous fake fireplace that you got to by walking past the open kitchen, which I always like because you can say hi to the chef and thankyou on the way out.

Comfort: comfortable atmosphere, physically the chairs were a bit uncomfortable.

Service: really good - no 'group' angst.

Corkage: only 2.50 per bottle! Restaurant is BYO only, so I suppose they can't go too overboard on it.

Prices: Group menu had set prices, which was great, and I think we walked away from a 3-course meal with corkage and coffee for about $47 each - can't argue with that!

 THE FOOD

Entree: Mixed entrees with little tasty morsels for all to share is a great idea for groups, avoiding all that 'you order and we'll share' rubbish. There were mixed scores, up around the 7-9 mark, but I'm sticking with my highly controversial call of '10' for the Black figs wrapped in prosciutto topped with shaved parmesan. The best ever (although I may qualify that as 'best ever in Australia' after I've been in Italy during summer and the figs are in season). Duck liver & brandy pate, red lentil dahl, smoked salmon on ciabatta, beetroot relish and goats cheese were winners all round.

Main: Wild Barramundi Fillet steamed in a bag with ginger and coriander was the choice of the night (although a HUGE serving), followed by the Tea Smoked Atlantic Salmon, Homemade Ricotta Ravioli and the chicken dish that Becks had. As always, a simple and superlative side serve of mash stole the show.

Dessert: Without a doubt the Chocolate Fudge Cake with orange toffee sauce and fresh cream stole the evening. THE best dessert so far.  The Lemon Delicious Pudding seemed popular, but I was too busy licking orange toffee off my plate to ask how it was!

THE RESULT

Go again. Take a bunch of friends along and sit out the back, or have a cosy romantic meal in the front, or even take the paper down on Sunday afternoon and eat up.

"You could happily spend all day here, including dinner, but weekends start with a brunch bruschetta laden with prosciutto and balsamic mushrooms, or smoked salmon and horseradish crème, assured coffee and service as bright as the sunshine."

"This former shopfront is home to an engaging eatery. The eclectic charm of comforting wood tones, candle-lit tables and burgundy walls and the warm welcome from staff; not to mention the food, which is consistently appetising."

Score 14/20

"The colours are bold and the name is cheeky, the service chirpy and the food striking. So take something perky or quirky to quaff, chill out in the courtyard or cosy up at the front, and let the pleasures wash all over you."
